CAPE Holland’s CAPE VLT-640 Triple Vibro Lifting Tool – Tested and Certified Ready to Go
In 2022, the CAPE Vibro Lifting Technology was selected for the Moray West offshore wind farm project. The wind farm project is being developed by Ocean Winds, a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie.
Subsequently in March this year CAPE Holland was contracted by Boskalis to deliver a CAPE VLT-640 Triple spread lifting tool for monopile foundations with
- a top diameter of 7.5m
- a bottom diameter of up to 10m
- a length up to 93m
- a weight up to almost 2,000t
The lifting tool will be used to upend and safely install monopiles for the Moray West offshore wind turbine and offshore substation platform foundations. Due to the large turbine size, 14.7MW, and water depths up to 54m, extremely large XXL monopiles weighing up to 2,000t each will be required for this development.
Fabrication of the CAPE VLT-640 Triple lifting tool was completed in September this year by Breman Machinery. The lifting tool was then sent for load testing and certification.
The CAPE VLT is now certified with a safe working load (SWL) for lifting piles up to 2,400t following the successful load testing to a test load of 3,245t to complete the lifting appliance certification process under Lloyd’s Register Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment (CLAME), .
