The final wind turbine is now standing at what will be Germany’s largest offshore wind farm!
Cadelar are thrilled to announce that the wind turbine installation works at Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm has been completed! In collaboration with their great partners at Ørsted and Siemens Gamesa, Cadeler has finished the installation and transportation of offshore wind turbines (WTG’s). With a capacity of 913 MW, Borkum Riffgrund 3 will become Germany’s largest offshore wind farm!
This milestone follows the works at the other Ørsted offshore wind farm, Gode Wind 3. For these two combined projects, Cadeler has led the installation and transportation of 48 Siemens Gamesa 11MW WTGs.
Cadeler’s wind installation vessel Wind Osprey was deployed for both projects. The first of the two projects began in July 2024, after the jack-up vessel had undergone a large crane upgrade. With a lifting capacity of 1,600t, the new Wind Osprey main crane has lived up to all expectations and secured a safe, timely and efficient installation.
The wind farms are located adjacent to Ørsted’s other offshore wind farms off the coast of Northern Germany. The combined capacity of the wind farms at Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be 1.1 GW and they will power more than a million German households.
Cadel sends sincere thanks to their partners and clients at Ørsted and Siemens Gamesa and to everyone in Cadeler contributing with expertise and dedication to power the future of energy. This is a landmark project for Germany and an important step forward in the pursuit of a decarbonised future for all.
