Boskalis DSV BOKA Da Vinci Completes First Project in Hybrid Mode

The Boskalis diving support vessel, BOKA Da Vinci, has recently completed its first project in hybrid mode. The vessel did so in the North Sea, where Boskalis saturation divers were working on subsea infrastructure on the seabed for client Harbour Energy. While using its DP2 system the vessel switched from full use of generators to a hybrid mode that also drew energy from the newly installed batteries on board.

The BOKA Da Vinci was retrofitted with an Energy Storage System, or ‘power pack’ earlier this year. This reduces the vessel’s fuel consumption and associated carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by an average of up to 20%, thereby contributing to Boskalis’ emission reduction targets. The systems also provide a power supply and energy storage facility while the vessel is docked, contributing to quieter and more efficient operations. In addition to the BOKA Da Vinci, its sister vessel DSV BOKA Atlantis has also been retrofitted with a similar 1200kWh battery pack. In the near future more powerful Boskalis offshore vessels will follow having Energy Storage Systems retrofitted.

Boskalis would like to thank the crews of our vessels for their dedication.
