BigLift Shipping For Konecranes

A contract was signed in mid-November 2016 between the Board of Commissioners of the Virginia Port Authority in the USA and Konecranes for the provision of 86 Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs). The €200 million was at the time the largest deal ever for Konecranes. Sixty ASCs would be delivered to Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) and twenty-six to be delivered to Virginia International Gateway (VIG).

BigLift Shipping was awarded for the shipment of the 60 ASC’s for NIT. The first shipment was reported in January 2018 by BigLift Shipping’s MV Happy Buccaneer. Since then she has continued making the 6-week consecutive round trip voyage between Gdynia and Virginia transporting 6, and sometimes 7, cranes on each voyage. More cranes have been shipped by BigLift’s MV Happy Sky and MV Parkgracht from the fleet of BigLift’s parent, Spliethoff Group, making similar voyages in 2019.

The 60 cranes for NIT weigh 186.4t and measure 31.3m x 15.85m x 24.9m.

The shipments are due to be completed in 2020.
