Baldwin Mobilise their LTM1800d, Discharge the Vessel and Demobilise within 24 hours at Port of Tilbury
The Project and Marine Department of Baldwins Crane Hire recently supported its client deugro with the work scope of discharging Transformers from a vessel at the Port of Tilbury. The Super Grid Transformers, both destined for National Grid Substations weighed 200t and 120t. The Units were manufactured in South Korea by Hyosung Heavy Industries and arrived at the Port of Tilbury in Essex via Rotterdam.
For the discharge, Baldwins Crane Hire used their Liebherr LTM1800d Mobile Crane, complete with Derrick Backmast and Superlift Tray.
‘The Port of Tilbury is a very well subscribed Port, its location and infrastructure mean that it is very suitable for Heavy Lift Project Cargoes such as these Hyosung Transformers. As a result, it is often the case that the berths are at capacity 7 days per week. It is commonly understood that the main challenge is rigging, discharging and de-rigging in the time permitted on the allocated berth’.
In this instance, a night shift team from Baldwins Crane Hire and Baldwins Support Services arrived at the Port and to Berth 45, at 22.00hrs. At 06.30hs the next morning the Liebherr LTM1800d had been fully rigged and tested. It was now ready for the vessel discharge. At 07.00hrs the day shift had taken over and the discharge commenced. After a successful discharge of the Super Grid Transformers, the Liebherr LTM1800d was demobilised and the berth was vacated later that evening, in preparation from the next inbound vessel.
‘The Project went as planned and credit to the Operations and Site Teams who worked in such a manner demonstrating high standards in Health, Safety and Quality, as well as showing working efficiencies that enabled a Crane of this size and capacity to be on and off a berth in 24 hours.
The Project Department at Baldwins Crane Hire continue to provide commercially beneficial solutions, that are backed with high standards in operational health & safety.’
