Amsterdam Metro Trains Transported by Van der Vlist for Recycling
Last week Dutch heavy transport specialist, Van der Vlist, performed a transport with their special five-axle Broshuis trailers.
After many years of loyal service, 60 Amsterdam metros have reached retirement age, so they are taken to be professionally dismantled. This means that the reusable materials will be recycled, and parts that cannot be reused will be disposed of in accordance with EU regulations.

The dimensions of each of the 60 trains to be transported on the short journey from Amsterdam to Utrecht were:
- Weight 47t
- Length 30.6m
- Width 3.1m
- Height 3.6m
The height of the trains had already been reduced as their roof had already been dismantled by the client in Amsterdam.

The special Broshuis trailers have rails in the deck, so the trains can be winched on directly from the rails in the depot. These are especially developed for tram and rail transport. This way, no lifting operations are needed.
