Allelys Deliver 137t Yankee Dryer to Paper Mill in Barrow in Furness

Allelys have delivered a Yankee dryer pressure vessel, weighing 137t, to a paper mill in Barrow in Furness.

The dryer was shipped from Karlstad, Sweden and delivered to Buccleuch Dock, where it was lifted off the vessel using Allelys LG1550 crane and positioned onto flat top trailers.

Measuring 5.62m in diameter, 9m in length and up to 6.84m high the Yankee dryer was prepared for onward transportation using 10 axle flat top trailers with a 16.6t axle loading.

The Yankee dryer, measuring  was then transported 3 miles to the local paper mill in a transport configuration with a total length of 27m. Despite the short distance, the sheer size of the load meant that the route required street furniture to be removed and a police escort.

“For this operation our experts undertook the complete full service solution by providing project management and engineering support, including a route survey, swept path analysis, lift plan and lift management. To navigate such a long transportation arrangement on A-roads is no mean feat and I’m proud that the team delivered this safely and on schedule,” said Zac Smout, Senior Project Manager at Allelys.

Once on-site, the transport arrangement was reversed into storage and the dryer was stooled off.
