Allelys Complete Locomotive Transport for the Severn Valley Railway

At the end of the year Allelys transported the heritage steam locomotive BR Riddles 4MT 80079 for the Severn Valley Railway.

The 80079 was one of 155 2-6-4 tanks built to the B.R. standard design, and constructed at Derby, Doncaster and Brighton between 1951 and 1956.

This locomotive was completed at Brighton in March 1954, and was based at Tilbury, Essex, for 8 years on the passenger train service from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness, on the Thames Estuary.

In 1971, 80079 was bought from the scrap merchant company Woodham Brothers at Barry Dock by the ‘Passenger Tank Fund’ and moved by rail to Bridgnorth. After a comprehensive restoration, it entered service with the Severn Valley on 16th April 1977.

This 67t locomotive was the last of a series of transports that Allelys completed for the Severn Valley Railway in 2024.
