Ainscough Lifts for Opto in Newcastle

Ainscough Crane Hire’s Stockton depot has worked with Opto Living to help put the finishing touches to Newcastle’s newest student accommodation complex.

The Opto Newcastle site is located on City Road in the centre of the city, and contains large studio apartments as well as a gym, roof terrace, outdoor events venue, cinema room, and courtyard.

Ahead of the property’s opening for the 2019/20 academic year, Opto enlisted Ainscough to provide support in bringing the building work to completion.
From August, Ainscough’s team made five trips to the site in order to help Opto’s team. Due to the busy nature of the site, road closures had to be put in place and were arranged directly by Opto.

Using 40t and 50t all-terrain cranes, Ainscough lifted insulation materials and packs of doors on to the 7 storey complex’s roof so they could be brought down into the building and installed, and, among other tasks, also helped safely remove a boiler.

Ainscough was able to help Opto ensure the building was ready in time to welcome students as they arrived in Newcastle to begin the new term.
Sharon Alpay, Ainscough Crane Hire’s Stockton depot manager said: “It was a pleasure for us to work with Opto in helping bring this project to completion. We were able to utilise our fleet in order to support the team in helping to put the finishing touches to what is a fantastic addition to the range of student accommodation on offer in Newcastle. Although there were the normal challenges associated with working in a tight city centre site, our team was able to complete the tasks required in an efficient, safe, and successful manner.”
