Ahola Special Transport Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle from Arlanda, Sweden, to Turku, Finland
Last week Finnish transport company Ahola Special completed quite an unusual and exciting project… the transport of an historic airplane from Arlanda airport in Stockholm to the Turku suburb Pansio, where the Aviation Museum Association has rented a hall for the restoration of the plane.
The transported aircraft was a French built Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle. This plane type was Finnair’s first jet airliner for passenger transport in the 1960s.
The aircraft had been standing at Arlanda airport, waiting for its fate for a long time. The Aviation Museum Society Finland found out about it and decided to try to save it. In 2021 they reached an agreement with the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums to transfer ownership of the airplane to the Aviation Museum Society Finland.
The Aviation Museum Society brought the aircraft to Finland to restore it to its original appearance of 1963 and place it on public display. The aircraft will be displayed at Turku Airport once the restoration is completed.
This challenging transport required detailed planning and preparation, and requiring several trucks and trailers for the transport by road, ferry and again by road from the ferry port in Turku to the restoration hall in Pansio.
