Ahola Special Transport Delivering Sections to Kruunuvuori Bridge Construction Site
Ahola Special is the heavy lift division of the Finnish transport company, Ahola Group. The group is based in the port city of Kokkola 480km North of Helsinki, where the group has its second base.
The Crown Bridges Light Rail tram line is being built to provide an East – West tram line link across the city of Helsinki. An integral part of the line is the Kruunuvuori Bridge connecting the recreational tourist island of Korkeasaari to the Helsinki tram network. The Helsinki Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world, is sited on the island.
Ahola Special is to transport the bridge section beams to the construction site until the spring next year. The heaviest beams Ahola has transported for this project weigh over 80t and are more than 30m long which means the total weight for some of the transports are close to 150t and over 40m in length.
Once finished, the Kruunuvuori Bridge will be one of the world’s longest bridges intended only for public transport, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The goal is to start carrying passengers between Laajasalo and Hakaniemi in 2027.
