A new Cometto steelwork ETH5/4E for Fincantieri S.p.A.

4 June 2018

Customer Fincantieri S.p.A. added a new Cometto vehicle within its transport fleet. A steelwork vehicle type ETH5/4E has been delivered to the well-known Italian company.

The Cometto steelworks transporters are self-propelled self-loading vehicles with a payload capacity from 20 to 400t. The ETH product range has been designed to transport iron and steel mill products. The main features of these kind of trailers are the customized platform dimensions and the flexible positioning of the operator cabin over or under the loading platform.

Maximum safety of the operator

The ETH5/4E from Fincantieri S.p.A. is a 5-axle version with a payload of 121t, four motorized suspensions and a 202kW Scania diesel engine with an integrated radiator. The steering system is fully electronically controlled. There is also the possibility to select several steering modes: longitudinal and transversal Ackermann, carousel or crab.

The well-being and safety of the operator has been included within the design process. A super-equipped cabin includes an adjustable, super sprung and 180-degree rotating driving seat. Additionally there are tempered glasses, an autonomous heating system with thermostat, soundproofing, electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors and two rear-view cameras. The specific isolating equipment against high temperature and noise offers maximum protection for the operator due to the harsh working conditions and heavy duty-cycle typical of this application field. Additionally, the cabin is equipped with shock absorbers to ensure the best comfort to the driver.

Long cooperation between Cometto and Fincantieri S.p.A.

The partnership between Cometto and Fincantieri S.p.A. started already in 1985 when the trailer manufacturer delivered 16 vehicles from different product families (SYT, ETH, ETL).

Fincantieri S.p.A. is a global player in the shipyard field with twenty locations across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Listed on the Milan stock exchange, the Group is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world and the only one that is able to build all kinds of high-tech ships: from naval vessels to offshore units, from special ships and highly complex ferries to mega yachts.
