3,600 Tesla Model 3 Cars bound for Zeebrugge with Wallenius Wilhelmsen

Tesla cars loading in Shanghai

The first export of Chinese-produced Tesla vehicles set sail from Shanghai in October onboard our vessel, MV Toscana.

A total of 3,600 Model 3 cars are en route to Zeebrugge, from where they will be delivered to customers across Europe.

The cars are manufactured at Tesla’s newly opened Shanghai Gigafactory, which is the company’s first factory outside the US and was built to bolster its presence in China, the world’s largest automotive market.

Exporting Chinese-made cars to Europe, where sales of battery-electric cars increased by 25% in the first quarter of this year, will help to extend Tesla’s reach in the rapidly growing EV market before its fourth factory is up and running outside Berlin in 2021.

To facilitate the overseas export of its Model 3 cars, Tesla needed an agile and experienced partner to help meet its unique shipping and logistics needs.

The first shipment of Tesla vehicles to Europe is joined by a second batch, which has left Shanghai onboard our vessel MV Tannhauser.
