310t Container Crane Dismantled in the Port of Emmerich am Rhein

Autokrane Schares GmbH was recently part of an impressive project in the port of Emmerich am Rhein. Together with the customer Mammoet, we supported the dismantling of an old container crane – a demanding project that required the utmost precision and teamwork.

The old container crane weighed 310t. Dismantling it required powerful machines and sophisticated planning. Four Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile cranes were used to safely dismantle the individual components. Each of these cranes has a lifting capacity of 450t and 134t of ballast – perfect for a project of this size.

After dismantling, the crane’s individual parts were transported locally using two 6-axle Cometto SPMTs. These state-of-the-art vehicles offer maximum flexibility and precise handling, even with the heaviest loads.

Completing the project presented another challenge: the entire container crane had to be loaded onto two barges. This was done using a tandem lift, where two cranes work simultaneously to move the heavy load safely. Thanks to the precise coordination of everyone involved, this step also went smoothly.

A key to the success of this project was the excellent teamwork between all partners. Thanks go to Mammoet for the trusting cooperation and to Port Emmerich Infrastruktur- und Immobiliengesellschaft mbH for their hospitality and support on site.

Special thanks go to Dutch colleagues from Nedcranes, especially to Arjan Klapwijk and his team, for the excellent cooperation. Schares would also like to thank Haegens | Horizontaal en Verticaal Transport and all other partners who supported them in this project.
