300t Transformer Transport by Kübler Spedition on RoRo Pontoon from van der Wees Watertransport
A Rhine cruise with a heavy weight and very little water under the keel.
A transformer important for the power supply was to be transported to a substation in southern Germany.
With a weight of over 300t, transport on continuous road was ruled out. So the solution was chosen for transport by water.
The transformer was first transported by barge to the Kübler Heavy Lift Centre in Mannheim and stored there until the delivery was required. In order to save expensive cranes for unloading, the transformer was then loaded onto a RoRo pontoon with their 500t overhead crane.
On the day of the transport, the lowest water level of the year was measured on the river Rhine. In order to be able to transport this weight on time, a particularly large pontoon with a shallow draught was chosen.
At the port of destination, the RoRo ramp was then assembled with a mobile crane and the cargo was brought ashore with a 16-axle platform truck. In the evening we went under police escort to the nearby transformer station.
Kübler Spedition thanks all parties involved with this transport including the Water and Shipping Authority, Koninklijke Van der Wees Groep B.V. and Scholpp Kran+Transport for their good cooperation.
