240t Mobile Harbour Crane Relocated in Southampton By Terra Marique
Staffordshire-based specialist shipping company Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd. have continued their busy start to 2021, successfully relocating a 240t mobile harbour crane within the Port of Southampton.
The Gottwald HMK170 was loaded at Southampton’s Eastern Docks for carriage to Solent Stevedores Bulks Terminal in Southampton Port’s Western Docks.
Working for Konecranes, who in turn were contracted to ABP Southampton, the precious cargo was driven onto the unique heavy lift barge the Terra Marique at high water, in an operation that was complete within 90 minutes.
Robert Wynn & Son’s crew, working within enhanced protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic, lashed and secured the cargo ahead of the short voyage of 3 nautical miles within one of the UK’s busiest ports.
Following the short transit, the offloading was commenced at low water and again was successfully carried out in a 90-minute operation.
Robert Wynn & Sons Group Engineer & Loadmaster Sally Weston co-ordinated the operation and commented: “While Robert Wynn & Sons and the Terra Marique has successfully carried out the movement of a number of harbour cranes around the UK over the last twelve months no two shipments are the same.
Detailed planning and collective working was required to successfully carry out such a complex operation in a busy operational environment. Our engineers, crew and those from Konecranes and ABP Southampton worked very well together to ensure the project was delivered as planned.”
