20 Kalmar Ottawa T2 Tractors for Baja Ferries in Mexico

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement with Mexican ferry operator Baja Ferries to supply 20 terminal tractors for use in RoRo port operations. The order, which was agreed through Kalmar’s Mexican distributor Tracsa/Sitsa, was booked in Cargotec’s 2019 Q3 order intake, with delivery scheduled to take place during Q1 2020.

Baja Ferries is a leading provider of cargo and passenger ferry services in Mexico, offering integrated and multimodal logistics solutions. The company’s routes connect Baja California Sur with the rest of Mexico via two routes in the Sea of Cortez. Baja Ferries has been operating Kalmar terminal tractors for three years under a rental agreement with Tracsa/Sitsa.

The Kalmar Ottawa T2 Terminal Tractor sets the standard for world-class trailer handling solutions for port, intermodal and distribution customers. Available in DOT/EPA-certified and off-road configurations, the T2 is a purpose-built truck featuring an ergonomic cab design, fast fifth-wheel lifting and easy-access service points to speed up routine checks and servicing.

The units supplied to Baja Ferries will be fitted with the required hardware to enable them to be connected to Kalmar Insight – a performance management tool for cargo handling operations that turns data into actionable, impactful insights.

Gabriel Castañeda, Operations Manager, Baja Ferries: “The Kalmar machines we have been renting have met all our expectations in terms of performance, productivity and safety and we have received excellent support from Tracsa/Sitsa. The Kalmar Ottawa T2 meets all of our expectations and having a Kalmar distributor close to us was also an important factor in our decision.”

Erika Barbosa, Vice President, Latin America, Kalmar: “This order is yet another indication of the high regard in which the Kalmar Ottawa T2 is held by customers for its ability to ensure safe and efficient trailer spotting in terminal environments. We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Baja Ferries and would like to acknowledge the instrumental part that the hard work and excellent support provided by our local partners Tracsa/Sitsa has played in securing this order.”
