Spotted: Coscol Da Hua Finds Room for Two Huge Cranes

In today’s spotted we bring you an image of COSCOL Heavy Lift vessel MV Da Hua being loaded with two mobile harbor cranes (MHC) at Chinese Nantong Port on June 8.

Following the loading of the two cranes, the vessel departed to Myanmar.

The company said the loading of COSCOL’s DA type I multipurpose heavy lift vessel was challenging due to an over-length and over-weight of cargo. The total weight of the cargo and the hanging beam is over 400 tons, according to the company. However, the weight capacity of the four lifting points is just 110 tons per point.

Moreover, the breadth of the two cranes exceeded the ship’s board, leading to stowage difficulties.

Built in 1998, the 14,021 dwt ship has a length of 153 meters and a width of 23.06 meters. SOURCE: WMN

Comment by the Heavy Lift Specialist:

It seems the way they have attached the rigging and lift beam to the load, that they have never heard of "Stability of the Load", when lifting a load from lift points below the CoG of the load.

This lift seems marginal stable, and it looks like they are trying to increase stability by fixing addional lines to the ends of the lift beams. That helps, but is the wrong approach.

Looks like a HMK280, may be a chinese copyNormally lifted HMK280 with only 1 CW at jib outreach as prescribed by GottwalttOlder models do not have strong lifting eyes on main frame, newer have lifting eyes suitable for assembled lifting. Inct this case this is correct lifting methodsThe lines on the lifting beams are clearly stearing lines used for rigging
