Catapulted from the platform

Catapulted from the platform

The scene shortly after the incident occured

April 18, 2016

A man was seriously injured last Thursday in Forest Park, Illinois when a utility pole struck the platform he was working from and bounced him out of the bucket.

The man was working for ComEd installing larger new steel poles, when the crane/boom truck lifting it dropped the load.

The new pole fall onto the power lines - which were still live - pulling them and one of the old wooden poles over. One or both struck the edge of the platform catapulting the man out of the fibreglass bucket at a height of between nine and 10 metres. One assumes that he was not wearing a harness with lanyard attached.
